FLOUR TORTILLAS

This is the recipe my grandma used to use when I was growing up. Great for everything from soft tacos to just plain with butter.
Servings: 12 Tortillas
Course: Bread
Cuisine: Mexican

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder,
  • Cup Lard
  • tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Water, hot.

Method

  1. Mix all dry ingredients with your hand and ensure that the lard is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  2. Add just enough water until the dough is slightly sticky.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
  4. Place in a covered bowl and let stand for 30 minutes.
  5. Knead the dough for about one minute and then make into balls approximately 1.5 inches in diameter.
  6. Roll out the balls to size and thickness desired. Usually around 6 to 8 inches.
  7. Cook the dough over medium heat on an un-greased skillet for approximately 20 – 30 seconds on each side or more depending on your tastes.
  8. The dough should start to bubble up.
  9. Wrap tortillas in a cloth to keep warm until all tortillas are done.
