This is the recipe my grandma used to use when I was growing up. Great for everything from soft tacos to just plain with butter.
Ingredients
Method
- Mix all dry ingredients with your hand and ensure that the lard is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
- Add just enough water until the dough is slightly sticky.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
- Place in a covered bowl and let stand for 30 minutes.
- Knead the dough for about one minute and then make into balls approximately 1.5 inches in diameter.
- Roll out the balls to size and thickness desired. Usually around 6 to 8 inches.
- Cook the dough over medium heat on an un-greased skillet for approximately 20 – 30 seconds on each side or more depending on your tastes.
- The dough should start to bubble up.
- Wrap tortillas in a cloth to keep warm until all tortillas are done.
